Biopsy

At a glance
The removal of a small amount of tissue and/or fluid from the body and its examination under the microscope and/or by other analytical methods to establish or confirm the presence of a disease, follow its course and/or estimate its outcome. The sample is usually obtained by needle aspiration, but other methods and instruments, including surgery, are also used.
