Information notice on the use of cookies – under Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 679/2016

Below we explain transparently how so-called cookies work on this website (the “Site”), in compliance with Directive 2009/136/EC and the related decision no. 229/2014 of the Italian Data Protection Authority.

1        What a “cookie” is

Cookies are short pieces of text (letters and/or numbers) sent by the Site and stored by your browser on the device you are using (computer, tablet, smartphone). They contain information to be reused during the same visit or later on, even days afterwards. Cookies are stored according to the user’s preferences.

In addition, with the introduction of HTML5, various forms of local storage and similar technologies are available, such as web beacons and transparent GIFs, which can be used to collect information about the user’s behaviour and choices and about the use of the services.

For simplicity, in this document we use the term “cookie” to refer to cookies and all similar technologies.

Cookies are typically installed:

• directly by the owner and/or operator of the website (so-called first-party cookies);
• by operators other than the website visited by the user (so-called third-party cookies). Unless otherwise stated, these cookies fall under the direct and exclusive responsibility of the relevant operator. Further information about privacy and their use is available directly on the websites of those operators.

This website may use, including in combination, the following types of cookies, classified according to the guidance of the Italian Data Protection Authority and the opinions issued at European level by the Article 29 Working Party:

1. Session cookies: these are not stored persistently on the user’s computer and are deleted when the browser is closed. They are strictly limited to transmitting session identifiers needed to allow safe and efficient browsing of the site, avoiding other techniques that could be detrimental to the confidentiality of users’ browsing.
2. Persistent cookies: these remain stored on the computer’s hard disk until they expire or are deleted by users/visitors. Through persistent cookies, visitors who access the site (or other users of the same computer) are automatically recognised on each visit. Visitors can set their browser to accept or refuse all cookies, or to display a warning whenever a cookie is offered so that they can decide whether to accept it. Users can in any case change the default settings and disable cookies (that is, block them permanently) by setting the highest protection level.
3. Technical cookies: these are used to authenticate users, to enjoy multimedia content such as a flash player, or to allow the browsing language to be selected. In general, the user’s prior informed consent is therefore not required. This category also includes cookies used to analyse site accesses/visits statistically, provided they are used exclusively for statistical purposes and collect information in aggregate form, and analytics cookies that do not allow unique identification (for example by masking the fourth component of the IP address), limited to traffic monitoring data (geographical area, time slot, pages visited) without comparison with other data that would in fact allow unique identification.
4. Non-technical cookies: all cookies used for profiling and marketing purposes. Their use on users’ devices is prohibited unless users have first been adequately informed and have given valid opt-in consent. These cookies can in turn be grouped by the function they perform:

• Analytics: cookies used to collect and analyse statistical information about accesses/visits to the website. In some cases, combined with other information such as the credentials used to access restricted areas (email address and password), they can be used to profile the user (personal habits, sites visited, content downloaded, types of interaction, etc.).
• Widgets: this category includes all graphic components of a program’s user interface designed to make interaction with the program easier. Examples of widgets are Facebook, Google+ and Twitter cookies.
• Advertising: this category includes cookies used to display advertising within a site. Google and Tradedoubler fall into this category.
• Web beacons: this category includes snippets of code that allow a website to transfer or collect information through the request for a graphic image. Websites may use them for various purposes, such as analysing website use, monitoring and reporting on advertising, and personalising advertising and content.

2        The cookies used on our website

2.1       Technical cookies

2.4       Social, marketing and profiling cookies

If you give consent through one of the simplified methods described in the notice shown on your first visit to the site, the site may set, or allow the third-party companies listed below to set, further so-called profiling cookies, for which you may change or withdraw your consent in whole or in part.

As regards so-called “social buttons”, we act as data controller with reference to the inclusion of those buttons on our site. If you decide to click a button, the subsequent activities are carried out with the social network operator as data controller.

3        Managing cookies

On your first visit to the Site a banner is shown that allows you to accept all cookies, refuse them or choose which categories to allow; closing the banner with the “X” counts as a refusal. Without consent only technical cookies are used, and neither Google Analytics nor Google Maps are loaded. Your choices can be changed or withdrawn at any time through the “Cookie preferences” button at the bottom left of every page of the Site.

You can also decide whether or not to accept cookies using your browser settings.

Settings can be defined specifically for different websites and web applications. The main browsers also allow different settings for “first-party” and “third-party” cookies. Through your browser’s options menu you can manage and decide whether to accept the different types of cookies and delete them.

Please note: disabling technical cookies in whole or in part may affect the use of the areas of the site reserved for registered users. Public content, on the other hand, remains available even with cookies completely disabled. Disabling “third-party” cookies does not affect browsing in any way.

4        Disclosure and dissemination of data

Data collected through cookies may be processed only by specifically authorised staff and by data processors. Such data may also be disclosed to third parties, only where they have been specifically appointed as data processors, in order to carry out services connected with existing relationships (e.g. consultants, service companies).

Data collected through our own cookies will not be disseminated or sold to third parties. For third-party cookies, please refer to the privacy notices of the relevant operators indicated above.

5        Your rights

You may exercise your rights towards the data controller at any time, pursuant to Articles 15 to 22 of Regulation (EU) 679/2016 (GDPR), in particular the rights of access, rectification and integration and, where allowed, portability of the data provided, as well as obtaining erasure, restriction of or objection to the processing of your data on legitimate grounds. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority under Article 77 of Regulation (EU) 679/2016 (GDPR). You can contact the controller in the following ways:

In order to protect the personal information of the data subject, we may need to ask for further specific information confirming the identity of the person making the request, so that the right of access to the information (or the exercise of any of the other rights) is granted only to those entitled to receive such communications. This is a further appropriate security measure for the protection of personal data.

Requesting access to your personal information (or exercising any of the rights above) is free of charge. However, if the request is clearly unfounded or excessive, we may charge a reasonable fee taking into account the administrative costs of providing the information, or refuse to comply with the request in such circumstances.
