Clinical significance
Serum may contain class G immunoglobulins (IgG4) that react with specific food extracts, and this has been linked to a range of symptoms characterising what is called food intolerance, on whose recognition there is not yet unanimous scientific agreement.
Clinical indications
Symptoms not otherwise explained by the presence of specific IgE or by coeliac disease.
Sample type
The patient must have a blood sample taken.
Preparation
You must fast for at least 8 hours; a small amount of water is allowed.
