Rheumatology

The Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology Unit at CalatafimiMed is headed by Prof. Giovanni Triolo.

The clinic deals with joint, muscle and bone problems and systemic autoimmune diseases, in particular:

• Systemic bone and joint diseases – such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Reiter’s syndrome, gout, polymyalgia rheumatica, rheumatic fever, Paget’s disease, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis – and localised conditions such as frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, fasciitis, etc.;
• Systemic autoimmune diseases, which often do not involve bones and joints (systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, Sjögren’s syndrome, mixed connective tissue disease and “overlap” syndromes, antiphospholipid syndrome, polymyositis and dermatomyositis, Raynaud’s phenomenon, and vasculitis (e.g. Horton’s arteritis, Behçet’s disease, Takayasu’s arteritis)

The rheumatology consultation at CalatafimiMed is completed by instrumental procedures: joint ultrasound; arthrocentesis; joint injections, including ultrasound-guided joint injections.
